Systems Engineer

Role description

Finite is currently looking for an experienced Systems Engineer for a 12-month contract with possibility of extension. The successful candidate will assist in the delivery of technical support, design, testing and implementation activities relating to existing live systems and current or imminent ICT-related projects.

Tools to succeed:

  • Prior experience as a System Administrator/ System Engineer
  • Scripting ability including Power Shell skills
  • Relevant industry accreditation such as Microsoft Certifications (highly desirable)
  • Experience utilising Microsoft products & services including SQL server (must have)
  • Good hands-on experience with cloud hosting environments
  • Experience working in a medium to large organisational environment
  • Provide advice and assistance with solution design, build, implementation and support of cloud-based (predominantly Microsoft Azure) infrastructure for various operational and project needs (advantage)
  • Perform daily checks and ongoing system monitoring, verifying integrity and availability of applications, SQL databases, infrastructure and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups, indexing and exports (advantage)
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of technologies and tools including open source
  • Solid experience with IT systems and operations, particularly in a cloud environment
  • Prior experience with incremental testing & deployment


  • Responsible for effective installation, deployment, configuration, operation, testing and maintenance of systems and related cloud infrastructure
  • Proactively participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the system infrastructure and providing efficient system maintenance
  • Ensure system specifications, operating systems, software, and related procedures adhere to organisational guidelines, standards and values
  • Assist in resolving system and project technical issues in conjunction with relevant teams, including analysis, recommendation of options to stakeholders and implementation of resolution strategies
  • Good understanding of software development life cycle as well as knowledge of both Agile and traditional project management principles
  • Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary
  • Create, change, and delete user accounts per request processes
  • Provide other support on request from various stakeholders and investigate and troubleshoot issues
  • Repair and recover from system and infrastructure failures
