Domain Architect

NSW government department are seeking a Senior Domain Architect to set the overall technology direction for a Student Management portfolio. This role will be building and maintaining a future-state blueprint of product architecture (Technology Roadmap), and promoting innovation and continuous integration. The role is responsible for collaboration with Strategy & Architecture directorate, as well as across enterprise IT and the business functions in order to understand business needs and objectives ensuring solutions align with overall architecture and guidelines.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Review/refine/propose architectures within portfolio to be cost-effective, resilient, effective for optimal selection of architectural implementations, technologies, practices and skills for successful product delivery
  • Define overarching technical road-map for the Student Management domain and coordinate definition of architecture across all experience teams.
  • Define and prescribe reference architectures, blueprints and best practices in alignment with department's guidelines.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders (Architects & Solution Designers) to help to shape/review technical strategies and road-maps and shaping conceptual architecture to enable estimation & details design
  • Create/maintain portfolio level architecture artefacts and review application level architecture in enterprise architecture repository
  • Provide oversight, governance to all initiative and be an active member in forums and design authorities
  • Provide architecture support with proof of technology evaluation & recommendation on emerging technologies
  • Collaborate/engage with technical teams to uplift operational effectiveness through modern and emerging technologies
  • Support delivery programs and product teams implementing change
  • Champion knowledge sharing and enrolment in modern technologies and approaches
  • Mentor, coach and up-skill existing resources to align with required future state skill-sets

The team is seeking candidates with the following experience and attributes:

  • Strategic mindset and "big-picture" view to ensure overall cohesive environment and cross-product architectural alignment with ability to analyse, suggest and derive multiyear strategy and technology roadmaps
  • Extensive experience across a number of architectural capabilities (e.g. data, infrastructure, integration, security, cloud) in large complex IT environment and experience in transitioning from legacy to modern architecture
  • Knowledge and/or working experience with core design patterns, DevOps & Automation, SOA, micro-service, event-driven architecture, clouds computing architecture, and emerging technologies
  • Experience with creating conceptual and logical architecture artefacts
  • Expert in modern technologies and architectures e.g. AWS, Streaming Platforms, Search Engines
  • Adaptable and able to solve macro and micro level problems and be "hands-on" when required
  • Excellent communication skills to present technical solutions to the executive leadership
  • Vendor Management experience is desirable
  • Industry certifications highly desirable
