DATA MIGRATION SPECIALIST

About the Project

Legal Business Services (LBS) provides legal advice to all divisions within various government departments.

The Commercial and Properties legal team help with all aspects of commercial and property law, including procurement of goods, services and works, contract management and disputes, sale and purchase of land, leasing and grants.

A project has been started to move the Commercial and Properties team to use the legal practice management system - LexisNexis VisualFiles.

At present the commercial and properties team store their legal documentation into Objective Record Management System.

As part of the project a data migration will be carried out to ensure that all the legal files are held in the legal practice management system to ensure the users have easy access to them.

About the role

The Data Migration Specialist will design the data migration process including creating scripts that perform the mappings of existing data items to new structures, the collection of source data, data transfer and upload mechanisms.

As Data Migration Specialist you will be responsible for the data migration design and execution. This includes but is not limited to profiling data across the system and identifying and analysing data conflicts. You will also work with business data owners to define and understand the data.

The Specialist will carry out the following activities;

• Develop data migration strategies and plans
• Review the data source and understand data from a business domain
• Work with business data stakeholders to define and understand data
• Extract, cleanse and upload legal data (both in bulk and in individual sets)
• Work collaboratively with key stakeholders on cleansing client master lists and follow up on outstanding queries to help ensure that project deadlines are met
• Map source system data to destination system data structures
• Analyse, map and manage key data translation requirements
• Identify and highlight gaps arising from data mapping and modelling
• Develop and manage technical scripts required for data migration
• Execute and manage data cleansing as required for data migration
• Execute data migration test cycles including reconciling of all migrated data
• Implement the production data migration activity and complete the necessary data reconciliations
• Develop data management and data migration outcome reports as necessary

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, OR EXPERIENCE

• Sound knowledge of SQL databases
• Proven ability to write SQL scripts and analyse data sets
• SQL to perform complex end-to-end data migration activities
• Exceptional data management and data analysis skills
• ETL - SSIS, integration tools
• Experience working across the ETL process and ability to work closely and translate requirements
• Proven analytical capability
• Previous data migration experience
• Strong critical thinking, problem solving and data analysis skills.
